SLJ (Summer Learning Journey) Day 5, Week 1,

Activity 1 (Towering Timbers) (4 Points) Is logging good for New Zealand?

There is a long and rich history of logging in New Zealand. Logging involves cutting down trees. The people who cut them down are called loggers. The trees that they cut down are sold and used to build things (eg. houses), to make products (eg. paper), and to generate (create) heat and power. Over the past two centuries, many of the trees in New Zealand have been cut down by loggers.
____________________________________________________________________
I will be giving you two different opinions of why logging should not be a thing in New Zealand and why it should.

1. I think that logging is not much of a problem. Why? Because they help us. What they do is cut down trees so that we can live in houses they use those trees so that we can live in places and be safe. So I really don't think that logging is really a big deal. Believe it or not most of the medicine is actually made out of tree, a very interesting fact right!

2. Why I think we shouldn't have logging in New Zealand? It's because it is ruining our nature it doesn't help our country to stay healthy so I do think that the loggers should be cutting less at a time. Well pretty much if we had no trees around us we will probably be not living in this world right now. Also trees grows alot of things like food, flowers and many more so we shouldn't be cutting our trees.

Activity 3 (Going, going....gone) (10 Points) 2018 In New Zealand

2018 here in New Zealand was differently the best years. I positively had a great time in my hometown of Auckland! In Auckland, you get to see many things like the Sky Tower, restaurants and of course beautiful beaches.

The most exciting thing is that when the Tongans took over the whole of Auckland. The most fun thing that happened during the MMT (Mate M'aa Tonga) games is probably when the decorate there houses with the bright red colors and of course there Big red and white flags. I do differently think that the Tongans were proud to be Tongans.

All though like I said 2018 was great and crazy. I will be looking forward to next years amazing facts!

SLJ (Summer Learning Journey) Day 4, Week 1

Activity 1 (Scaling New Heights) (4 Points) Sir Edmund Hillary

If you ever had the chance to interview Sir Edmund Hillary what kind of questions would you ask him?

On your blog, post 5 questions that would like to ask Sir Edmund Hillary about his life.
____________________________________

His face must be known on the New Zealand $5 note. In my opinion, Sir Edmund Hillary is one of New Zealand's most braves and strongest person. I do think that he was lucky to climb interesting mountains because he got to experience a lot about New Zealand and had the chance to see amazing things about our culture, even though he did a very hard job I do think he was very lucky.

Activity 3 (Salt and Pepper) (10 Points) My Hotel Room

If I were to build my own hotel room I would defiantly use bricks, very strong bricks. Why? So that it can be nice and wide and that it would be a very big and spacey room.

Where would I build my hotel room? Well, I would probably build it next to a very quiet and beautiful beach. Why? Because I want people to wake up and see a very beautiful view.

I would want my hotel room just like this but a bit more like a hotel room (Because I drew it and it doesn't look right) But I would like something a little bit similar to it. I want to have a big sign on top of the bed that says "Hotel" and then have a balcony next to the bed so that they can relax and enjoy the beautiful view. On the bed, I do want a lot of pillows so that the can feel comfy while they sleep and a long chair on the bottom of the bed. Also an extra blanket just in case they get a little chilly.

Activity 3 (WWF) (10 Points) World Wildlife Fund

In 1961, a number of people came together to start an organisation called the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). The main goal of this organisation was/is to protect life on earth. Hundreds of WWF staff work in countries all over the world trying to protect our planet and the animals who live here, including the Maui Dolphin. At present there are only 63 Maui Dolphins left in the world and the WWF is asking for our help to protect them. They have created a petition that everyone in New Zealand is invited to sign. If you would like to sign the petition to save them, please follow this link.

WWF is working on to save the Freshwater Seals. Why? Because half of them are dying and they do need help if you are wanting to help click this link and it should take you straight to the website. But let me give you some information about what the WWF is working on.

People are trying to save the Freshwater Seals by building snowbanks for the arriving newborn baby's. If they didn't build the snowbanks the seal pups will pretty much die.

I think what the WWF Company are very brave of them cause I bet that no one around the world would help to save our animals. They are doing a very amazing job to help and save our animals.

Levin Here We Come!

Tauranga
Mount Maunganui is one of the mountains that I have been to in Tupou. My parents Maima & Lemuelu where married at Levin. The only reasons why my parents took us to Levin is because they wanted us (Me and my siblings) to see the places they have been visiting while they where getting married. I have really enjoyed the places that I have been visiting with my family. The places that I have been to in Levin was the Marai, Mount Maunganui, and Farms. One of my favorite activities that I have done was going to Mount Maunganui.

______________________________________________________________________________
The Marai

This Marai is where all my family members all slept in because my parents were getting married so they all had to sleep in the Marai. I have been in this Marai with my siblings and I find it a very small place to sleep in with a big family. When I got inside this Marai I see pictures of old people and thought that they were the ones that owned the Marai. First of all, we had to take off our shoes because we had to respect the Marai as if it was our own house. As we go to the kitchen where my family was having there feed was also a very small place to be eating.
